TITLE Exceptional Educational Assistant Preschool

QUALIFICATIONS 1. Not less than a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma

(copy of diploma or transcript must be submitted upon employment), and

proof of additional training from one of the following:

Associates Degree, or a minimum of 48 semester hours of higher level

Education, or pass a state-mandated equivalency test;

  1. At least one (1) year of experience so that with appropriate training, service

may be provided in the specific role for which employed; and

  1. Meets health and physical requirements.

JOB GOAL To provide inclusion services to students in the Preschool setting which includes the Altamont Head Start and Tracy City Head Start.


  1. Provides support for students in inclusive settings.
  2. Collaborates with general educators, administrators, and other school support staff, as well as teacher assistants, and related service personnel.
  3. Where appropriate, adapts curriculum to meet the needs of the student, coordinates the infusion of the IEP goals into the curriculum and assists with the implantation of the IEP goals.
  4. Consults with and provides support and in-service to the inclusion classroom team.
  5. Coordinates the implementation of the inclusion support program including: scheduling students, maintaining records, coordinating with staff who are dispersed in several locations, providing direct instruction to students, and assessing individual student performance.
  6. Prepares written reports as required and meets with Exceptional Education Preschool Coordinator regularly to review student progress.
  7. Utilizes positive strategies to manage student behaviors.
  8. Participates in professional growth activities such as staff trainings that includes CPR and CTR.


This job may require lifting of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary grades with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  1. Pushing and/or pulling
  2. Climbing
  3. Stooping, kneeling and/or crawling
  4. Reaching
  5. Talking
  6. Hearing
  7. Seeing


The required vocational preparation may come from any of the following:

  1. Vocational education
  2. Apprentice training
  3. On-the-job training
  4. Essential experience

  1. Intelligence: The ability to understand instructions and underlying principles. Ability to reason and make judgments.
  2. Verbal: Ability to understand meaning of words and the ideas associated with them.
  3. Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discrimination and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures and widths and lengths of lines.
  4. Manual Dexterity: Ability to move hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  5. Color Discrimination: The ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.


Normal working environment in a preschool/head start classroom

Anticipate 10 to 25 hours a week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m.

NON-EXEMPT from the requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act in regard to earning (and being appropriately paid) time and a half for all work over forty hours in the defined work week (defined as Sunday 12:00 a.m. to the following Saturday at 11:59 p.m.).
